2009 First Quarterly Update
Obama Signs SCHIP Bill - President Obama signed the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) bill in February 2009, extending coverage to around 11 million children, up from seven million in the preceding version of the law. The legislation requires states to providedental benefits to eligible children. It also allows children who have health insurance to receive dental benefits under SCHIP, if their private plan doesn't offer dental coverage.
ADA Supports "Meth Mouth" Bill - Senators have introduced a so-called "meth mouth" bill aimed at funding education in schools about the dangers of methamphetamine to dentalhealth. Meth addicts suffer from dry mouth, which leads to dental decay, and are prone to grinding their teeth, causing further damage. The American Dental Association supports the bill, which will fund research as well as help educate dentists.
Dentists See Fewer Patients - Dentists have noticed that the recession has affected their patients as people lose their jobs and health insurance. A poll of 300 Chicago-area dentists shows a drop in the number of patients who come in preventive visits, let alone elective or cosmetic procedures. As private clinics see fewer patients, offices that treat patients on Medicaid or other public insurance are seeing a rise in visits and in some cases months-long waiting lists for non-emergency patients.

Baylor College of Dentistry
On March 5, 2009, GPP hosted another table at the
Dental Senior Student Workshop. This follows the Fall workshop and speaking time with the Seniors last October in the Practice Administration course. "We always try to make the workshop fun for the senior
dentalstudents. They are under so much pressure to pass the board exams. The workshop offers a temporary relief," said Stella Oefinger, Director of Marketing. "This is our fourth year working with the
dental students. We very much enjoy our time at the school.

Southwest Dental Conference
This year Goldin Peiser and Peiser hosted a booth at the Southwest
Dental Convention held at the Dallas Convention Center on January 22 - 24, 2009. With over 9,000 attendees, the GPP team visited with several clients, prospective clients and other vendors that specialize in the
dental industry. In fact, one
dental client declared loudly, in the middle of the isle for all to hear, "You guys are the greatest...I will stay with you forever."
Excitement was also created by over hundreds of entries for the iPod Classic and Elizabeth Arden spa day giveaway.
Winners of the prizes were awarded to:
iPod Classic Winner:
