“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”
– Winston Churchill
Barry joined Goldin Peiser & Peiser, LLP in 2018 and is an audit principal in the firm’s Attest department. In this role, he provides assurance and peace of mind to clients over the accuracy of their financial statements with regard to applicable standards, and he also ensures that their internal controls over financial reporting are properly designed and implemented.
Barry serves privately owned businesses in industries that include real estate, construction, technology, and manufacturing and distribution. In this role, he has helped a prominent oil and gas plan sponsor save more than $250,000 in excess employer matching contributions from compliance errors identified in auditing the plan’s financial statements by providing necessary corrections to internal control policies and procedures. He also developed internal control and systematic accounting policies and procedures for financial reporting of a technology client’s cost basis accounting of internally developed constructed assets used for leasing.
Barry previously worked for the Dallas office of a national CPA firm where he performed assurance engagements for privately and closely held companies; managed client relationships; trained staff on current GAAP/GAAS/industry standards; recruited staff; and organized volunteer projects. Prior to that, he worked for another national CPA firm where he managed and performed audit, review, compilation and agreed-upon procedure engagements for privately and closely held companies. There, he also served as preparer of individual, corporate and fiduciary tax returns.
Barry recognized a natural gift for mathematics early on, and his father and uncles were accountants, so the accounting field seemed a natural choice for him. He enjoys all the different challenges that public accounting offers, and he attributes his success to high expectations he sets for himself every day. Barry wishes to set a good example to his peers, supervisors and colleagues. He attributes his father for this positive attitude; as his father often would state, a job is not worth doing unless you do it right, so don’t give half-hearted effort.
Barry is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree, and he is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Construction Financial Management Association – DFW Chapter.
A native of Garland, Texas, Barry lives in Plano, Texas with his wife, Sheri, their sons, Cooper and Mitchell, and their two dogs. He thrives on all things active, most notably running and golf. He has run two full marathons and currently runs with two local running groups.
